A further explanation of the "black holes" problem that I was having earlier - I was using flam3 to render the fractal. Currently the spherical variation is programmed such that 1e-6 was added to the denominator to ensure that there would not be a divide by zero error. The internal renderer uses 1e-10, which is much smaller. I think in the next release of flam3, this will be fixed. The holes don't show up too often, only when I make a certain type of fractal. This fractal required use of the internal renderer.
I am also trying something different. Previously, I had my filter radius set to 1. I am now using 0.4. I am hoping this creates clearer fractals.
