Normally you see spirals of this sort in images created with the Ultra Fractal program. But, this is strictly an Apophysis flame. This time around, I rendered with a very low quality setting - only 25 - in order to keep the graininess, because I believe this gives the spiral a bit of texture.

I agree.. the grainy texture is nice on this one.. Often things can be too smooth.. too perfect.. I find that often with photography.. sometimes its good to be slightly out of focus.. slightly over exposed.. slightly grainy.. or whatever.. it can add to the feel of the piece... I certainly think the same is true of music.. most of my favorite singers have "grain" to their voices (Bob Dylan for one) an I've always felt that it makes thier voices much more expressive and interesting than someone with a "good" smooth voice that hits allthe right notes all the time.

You've made a very good point! I am the same way about film, for instance. A lot of times on Sundance or the Independent Film Channel, they'll play indie films with a lot of grain. I like that look, personally. And now, I'm like that with Bob Dylan. Quite a few years ago, I couldn't understand why my husband liked Bob Dylan. At the time, I thought he sounded like a croaking frog. But, now that I'm older, I appreciate him more, and admittedly, actually enjoy his music.
